GULF ECO ADVENTURES
Gulf Eco Adventures has been established to share our love of the Hauraki Gulf and its amazing scenery and ecology, and to educate people about conservation issues, threats to our environment, and how we can all live more environmentally responsibly.
We strive to offer a quality sight-seeing / water-based adventure experience on a well-appointed comfortable launch. We want to take people to remote & pristine ‘off the beaten track’ destinations that showcase the very best of New Zealand nature & wildlife.
As part of our commitment to the community and environment we have also formed ‘Gulf Eco Warriors’, a Facebook group dedicated to cleaning up our public spaces through collective responsibility.
Our Boat ‘Kokomo’
Kokomo is an 11m aluminium launch fully surveyed to take up to 12 passengers. Capable of cruising at 20-24 knots, and with a maximum speed of 32 knots, she will get you out to great dive spots & remote islands quickly & comfortably.
In 2016 she received a full refurbishment, with a brand new well-appointed cabin, on-board toilet facilities, and a large outside cockpit and top deck viewing fly bridge to ensure a comfortable trip.
The boat has also been repowered with brand new twin 270hp Hyundai diesel engines. This has provided greater fuel economy, lower emissions, and a smoother, quieter performance.
We can cater for up to 5 passengers on overnight trips to the islands, with an open-plan forward bunk room, galley kitchen & bbq.
Kurt Salmond, together with wife Clair and kids Jesse & Mikayla, started Gulf Eco Adventures in 2016, to share our love of the outer Hauraki Gulf, and to help educate people on sustainable living and environmental awareness.
We are a young family based in Matakana, 1 hour north of Auckland city. We have always had a love of the ocean and native landscape, and base our lives around the outdoors, healthy living and being environmentally conscious. We try to live a self-sustaining lifestyle, small farming sheep, bee-keeping and producing our own fruit and vegetables. Our home also incorporates solar power to reduce our carbon footprint.
Kurt is a fully qualified skipper with Maritime New Zealand, and holds a current first aid certificate. He is also a volunteer with the local Coastguard unit.
Our boat is berthed at the Sandspit Yacht Club marina, 1287 Sandspit Road, Warkworth. It is just a 50 minute drive north of Auckland city. Turn off SH1 at Warkworth and follow the signs to Sandspit.
How do I get there if I don’t have a car?
There is a regular bus service from Auckland City to Warkworth. Nakedbus.com usually has the cheapest fares for about $30 return. We offer a FREE transfer service between Warkworth town and Sandspit so just let us know your bus times and we will pick you up!
