The Hauraki Gulf AUCKLAND MARINE PARK
The Hauraki Gulf is a precious and unique environment within New Zealand, with rich diversity of plant and animal species, many of which are rare and found nowhere else in the world.
The Hauraki Gulf Marine Park was established in 2000 and is the first of its kind in New Zealand. The aim is to preserve the Gulf’s environment through cooperation between commercial and recreational users, local & national government, and Iwi.
The ‘jewel in the Crown’ of the Hauraki Gulf is Little Barrier Island. This 3088 hectare off-shore island nature reserve is considered the most intact eco-system in New Zealand. It is home to many rare and endangered native species and offers a glimpse of pre-human New Zealand wilderness.
Come & explore this vast 1.2 million hectares of sea and islands on board our modern, fast 11m launch based at Sandspit, just 50 minutes north of Auckland city!
