Little Barrier Island (Te Hauturu o toi) is New Zealand’s first ever nature reserve, a prehistoric island, considered New Zealand’s most intact eco-system!

Experience this unique island paradise, with full island circum-navigation (weather permitting), snorkeling, kayaking & paddleboards (summer season only).

Crystal clear water, stunning cliffs, caves, dense native bush filled with bird song, and great wildlife viewing opportunities including                                                                                                     seabirds, dolphins, whales & seals!                                                                                                     

Your experienced, friendly & passionate guide will provide a fascinating commentary on the island’s history, ecology & conservation,               before getting you into the water to enjoy the magical underwater-world!

With a maximum public group size of just 12 people, you’ll be gauranteed a relaxed & personal experience.

This boat trip adventure includes lunch, complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate, plus an informative commentary!

*Landing is NOT permitted on the island without prior DOC permit, but we are available as a private charter to take tour groups to the island. Please inquire about getting a permit.

ECO WARRIOR is an 11m aluminium launch fully surveyed to take up to 12 passengers. Capable of cruising at 20-24 knots, and with a maximum speed of 32 knots, she will get you out to great dive spots & remote islands quickly & comfortably.


Your Skipper

Kurt Salmond, together with wife Clair and kids Jesse & Mikayla, started Gulf Eco Adventures in 2016, to share our love of the outer Hauraki Gulf, and to help educate people on sustainable living and environmental awareness.

Kurt is a fully qualified skipper with Maritime New Zealand, and holds a current first aid certificate. He is also a volunteer with the local Coastguard unit.

Our Location

Our departure is from Sandspit Public Wharf, at the end of Sandspit Road, Warkworth. It is just a 50 minute drive north of Auckland city. Turn off SH1 at Warkworth and follow the signs to Sandspit.

There is a public carpark at the wharf, with info centre, cafe & public toilets. For travellers, Sandspit Holiday Park is just across the road, or there are numerous well-priced b&b accommodation locally.

How do we get there? offer a daily return bus service from Auckland city or the airport to Warkworth town. We provide FREE transfers between Warkworth & Sandspit, just let us know when you book.

For larger groups and private charters, we can help to arrange a private shuttle bus / coach to get you to / from Sandspit.
